Chiron Emerging. a short film by Sian Lewis

About Chiron

"Chiron is the centaur...the wounded healer, living between worlds. He is an astonishing and unusual figure of the mythic pantheon. The story of his willingness to exchange or rather, sacrifice his life for that of the tragic Prometheus is what I am drawn to. Sacrifice, a theme I have explored for some time in other fields but without being fully able to embody this concept in an appropriate form until now. Chiron is that form" - Andrew Lacey

In Greek mythology, centaurs, like satyrs, were notorious for being wild, lusty, overly indulgent drinkers and carousers, violent when intoxicated, and generally uncultured delinquents. Chiron, by contrast, was intelligent, civilized and kind. This was because he was not related directly to the other centaurs, he had a different parentage: he was the son of the Titan Cronus and the Oceanid Philyra.

Emerging from Andrew's studio is a new piece which is focused on this bringing this ancient mythical figure back to contemporary minds. It heralds a new body of work, drawing deeply from classical imagery and Greek mythology.
